But what do I wear?
I know! You are busy with school, friends, and hobbies taking up lots of your time. But I think this is the perfect time to pamper yourself and enjoy capturing this fun time in your life!
Go have your hair + makeup done (or better yet, have someone come to you!), have your nails done as your hands and possibly feet will be in the photos. Looking super relaxed and at your best will make you feel more comfortable during the session. This is an exciting time in your life and I want to capture all of that…so take care of yourself first! And feel free to tell your parents that I'm making you if they need a little convincing!
As far as clothing? You be you!. Throw in a little color if you’d like, but skip the white shirts and jeans – there’s simple…and then there’s boring!) Up to 2 outfit changes (come wearing your first outfit) are available during your session. I reccomend a nicer dressy outfit, a "show your personality" outfit, and if you dance, play a sport, or other hobby bring your uniform.
STUDIO
The studio is great for your dance and sport photos as well as a simpler headshot for those yearbook photos. We can even have some fun with a specific theme your are interested in.
OUTDOORS
Outdoors you can add a little more layers for texture. Belts, scarves, necklaces and sweaters are just a few great ways to add pops of color without going overboard. Be cautious of what shoes you wear as we may have a location where you will be stepping in the grasses and rough natural terrain. A backup pair of shoes to wear while walking to the site can be worn and then change your shoes when in position. BRING AND WEAR BUG SPRAY!
For Men
Your hands, and possibly even your feet, will play a major role in this session, so it’s important that you tend to them too! Trim and tidy your nails and apply lotion to any dry skin. (It also never hurts to dab a little moisturizer on your face to help you look more refreshed. Those late nights studying can take a toll on your skin!)
A little clothing advice? Coordinate your shoes to your outfit. Unless you are going for a run leave the bright colored sneakers at home. ;) Neutral colored sneakers or even better black or brown shoes work great.
Hats? No! The brim of hats can put a dark shadow on your face. Leave you baseball cap for after the session, unless it is part of your sports uniform. Fancy dress hats may be used after consulting with Lindsay and will be used after a few hat free photos first.
Make sure your t-shirts are free of logos or too much writing. Plain is best. *Wrinkles do show up in photos, so please make sure all clothing is ironed or steamed. The retouching involved is extensive and will incur an extra fee. (Make sure there isn’t too much bagginess in the sleeve.) Be a little more adventurous with patterns in your shirt, suspenders, vests, sweater jackets for one of your outfits. Still stick with the no logo shirts as it takes away from the people in the photos. Khaki pants or jeans or even solid colored pants for a little color pop look great on boys.
Extra Tips
Bring a brush/comb for your hair. I suggest bringing the clothes to change into at the studio so that they don't get wrinkled. A well fed senior before the session will help keep the crankies away. Bringing snacks may help but save them for after you are finished with photos. A water bottle will help keep you hydrated in warmer weather so please bring one. I suggest bringing an extra change of clothes to go home in just in case they get dirty while outside in nature.
If wearing a dress remember you may be sitting. It's a good idea to put something on to cover up underwear, wearing legging shorts will help. Follow the rule of no printed/logo shirts. Coordinating colors, patterns, and textures can be done with layers. For example, suspenders, vests, jackets and accessories can be used to mix and match things up. Outdoors is a great time to add some color pops to your outfits. It looks great against the natural backdrop.
